"Ten years in the making, Defender’s Quest II: Mists of Ruins the sequel to the classic tower defense game by Level Up Labs. Sporting a stylish and vibrant new look, this latest entry in the series brings its tactical brilliance to a strange new land."
DQ: II is a tower defense game that has a real-time-strategy style with regards to timing. (Animated in 12 fps) The characters need to attack their targets automatically. At the same time their attacks need to be able to "hit" enemies within a broad range, hence the very broad arcs and quick motions in terms of attack style.
I helped my team by creating character animations and traditional FX for a few main storyline fighters as well as creating the animation sets needed for a variety of enemies and bosses. I also helped create status effects, map markers, and map FX transitions for bombs and teleportation FX for characters.
Flipped Status Effect for enemies- when they have been flipped by the player they will flail about on their backs. Few cases varied depending on the type of creature and what their body would do when flipped.
Ex: The geometric enemy would just collapse like a bunch of blocks.
Electrified Status Effect created for most enemies. The player shocks the enemy and their skeletal structure would show even if maybe it doesn't make total sense on why some would have bones...
Special FX created for a variety of status effects for both players or enemies as well FX for enemy attacks
